| Software industry grows fast In Jan-Aug 2005 |

China's software industry maintained rapid growth in the first eight months of 2005, with its industry scale expanding and export volume surging.
In the period, the industry generated 193.51 billion yuan (US$23.9 billion) in sales revenue, growing by 26.4 per cent year on year, which was 5 percentage points lower than in July. Of the amount, 113.53 billion yuan came from the software production sector, growing by 17.9 per cent year on year, 8.5 percentage points lower than the average of China's software industry, and accounting for 58.7 per cent of the industry's total.
In terms of industrial structure, the proportion of software service grew. The industry generated 26.79 billion yuan from the software service sector, growing by 34.2 per cent year on year and accounting for 13.9 per cent of the industry's total, 0.9 percentage points higher than in the year-earlier period and 0.4 percentage points higher than in July. Its business revenue from the system integration sector was 53.18 billion yuan, growing by 44.6 per cent year on year and accounting for 24 per cent of the industrys total, down 3.4 percentage points from the 27.4 per cent in the same period of 2004.
Supported by favorable policies, the export value of China's software industry in the period grew by 53.8 per cent year on year, which was 24.1 percentage points higher than the average of China's electronics and information sector and 27.4 percentage points higher than the average growth of the industrys business revenue. All the growth rates of software export value in Shaanxi, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Yunnan, Shandong, Hebei and Sichuan exceeded 100 per cent in the first eight months of 2005, showing a strong growth momentum. The software export was concentrated on coastal areas in eastern China, with a total export value accounting for 84.9 per cent of the total.
In the eight months, there were three municipalities and provinces each with a software income exceeding 20 billion yuan. They are Beijing, 44.1 billion yuan, Guangdong, 34.2 billion yuan and, Shanghai, 23.7 billion yuan. The municipalities and provinces made up 102 billion yuan in total, accounting for 53 per cent of the industry's total.
